Pleasant hill tennis club is a co-sponsored group of the Pleasant Hill Recreation and Park District.

History of the Pleasant Hill Tennis Club

From a handful of local tennis enthusiasts in the early 1970s, PHTC now embraces over 150 families from many parts of the Contra Costa area.  Our "home" is located at the six courts of the Pleasant Hill Middle School where we take responsibility for court maintenance and sharing in the cost of resurfacing projects.  We are a sponsored organization of PH Recreation and Park District.  We entered into USTA league play in 1990 and have had teams at various levels every year since. We sponsor an after school program for middle school students with a certified instructor.  Along with PH Recreation and the PH Middle School (another partner) we have raised funds over the years for seven cosmetic resurfacings.  In 2015 we accomplished a complete renovation of the courts (see The Real/Big Fix on this web site).  In 2001 PHTC received the CTA of the Year Award (Community Tennis Association, i.e., public courts club) from NorCal USTA for our service to the Club and the community. In 2003 we contributed to the restoration of the tennis court lights at College Park High School.  As a footnote to our history a Russian cosmonaut, Gennady Strekalov, visited the area in 1988 as part of a People-to-People program, played on our courts, and, of course, became an honorary PHTC member.

2017- Our fantastic "new" courts (see above) are constantly busy with league tennis, fun mixers, lessons, tournaments, many new members, an after-school program and lots of informal play!
